Production Process of Plastic Edge banding
The appearance of plastic edge banding looks the same, but the quality is directly related to the production process. In addition to the characteristics of raw materials, it is mainly effected by the selection of molding methods, production equipment, preparation of additives, etc. These factors may affect the dimensional stability of the edge banding.
Plastic edge banding can be formed in two ways: one is calendering to obtain thin sheets, and the other is extrusion to obtain flat plates. Compared with the extruded edge banding, the calendered edge banding has smaller shrinkage and better dimensional stability.
In addition, the rolled edge banding sheet can be divided into edge banding strips of different widths. Generally, the thickness of the edge banding strip is not as large as that of the extruded edge banding strip. It can be seen that the dimensional stability of the edge banding strip is also related to the thickness and width.
From the perspective of extrusion processing equipment, one is single screw, the other is twin screw. Single screw equipment is simpler than twin-screw equipment, so the cost is lower. Common products will choose this equipment. The twin-screw can make the raw materials more fluid, so it is more conducive to extrusion and has better dimensional stability. Compared with the single screw, the twin-screw equipment costs relatively high, but the production efficiency is high, and the process quality is also high.
The purpose of filler is to improve some physical properties of the product, such as thermal conductivity, expansibility, hardness, shrinkage, etc. The thermal conductivity of most fillers is high, about 10 times that of polymers. When the PVC plastic edge banding strip is heated, the heat is quickly transferred to calcium carbonate, which enhances the heat resistance of the edge banding strip. In addition, the presence of calcium carbonate blocks the movement of the molecules inside the edge banding strip, so the shrinkage of the plastic is reduced to a certain extent. The greater the thickness diameter ratio of calcium carbonate, the more obvious the effect is, but not the better. Generally, calcium carbonate with medium thickness diameter ratio is used as filler.
